The Barrington-Gloucester-Stroud Valley is a scenic, heritage and food-producing area under attack from mining.

This was the situation in 2009. Many more gold and coal exploration licences have been granted since this map was drawn up.  These include Gloucester Resources Ltd's coal exploration licences right up to the Gloucester residential district and Thunderbolt Gold Ltd's gold exploration licences over the Bucketts to the west of the town and the Mograni to the east.
 
AGL have been granted NSW government permission to develop a gas field just to the south of the township, and Gloucester Coal has expanded its exploration rights to the south-east.  Note that the Gas exploration licence overlays all of these.
